Biography

Professor David Playford did his initial training in General Medicine followed by Cardiology at Royal Perth Hospital, and then his Doctor of Philosophy research. After a fellowship at Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital, he returned to Perth to work as a Clinical Cardiologist. In 2002 he started a private cardiology group, where he earned a significant reputation in echocardiography and in the care of difficult and complex cardiac patients.

In 2014 he returned to solo private practice and now works in full time at the Mount Hospital, Perth.

In 2008 he became an Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle, and is now the Professor of Cardiology. He coordinates the undergraduate cardiac teaching and has a significant research program.

In 2014 he was appointed as the Professor of Cardiology at the Mount Hospital, Perth, where he directs the Coronary Care Unit including the junior medical staff and the teaching programs.

He is on several national boards, is the Medical Director of Alerte Digital Health, and is a director of Sleep Studies Australia.
