Biography

Dr Jeff Macemon is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with an interest in all areas of cardiac and thoracic surgery as well as Māori and Pasifika health promotion and wellbeing.

Originally from California, Dr Macemon immigrated to New Zealand in 1996 and subsequently obtained his basic medical training from the esteemed University of Otago. Dr Macemon’s journey to becoming a specialist involved completing the Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine, specializing in Pain Management at the Christchurch School of Medicine. He also served as the Medical Officer Representative to the Clinical Board for Canterbury District Health Board. Afterward, he pursued extensive training in General Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons before specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

With an impressive 18 years of experience, Dr Macemon has developed expertise in various areas, including minimally invasive and re-do cardiac surgery, off-pump and total arterial coronary bypass, the PEARS procedure, and enhanced recovery pathways in routine and high-risk cardiac surgery. His research interests encompass the design and development of aximanual instruments for open and minimally invasive surgery, new materials and designs for prosthetic cardiac valves, and the systemic effects of cardioplegia solutions.
